Meet Jon...
In 2017, I graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Creative Writing and returned to my home town of Leeds, ready to get involved in any and all theatre I could. Since then, I have been part of many Fringe theatre outfits as a writer, director and of course, techie. This includes long runs as the resident techie of Leeds Pub Theatre (2017-present), Arts at the Arms (2019-present) and Slung Low Shorts (2017, 18, 19, 25).
It wasn't until a few years later and having learned the ropes of DMX lighting and Qlab programming that I considered myself a 'proper' technical producer, but my work since the pandemic on shows such as EVA: A True Story by Nicki Davy and my yearly work with St Vincent's Pantomime have exposed me to work across a wide range of settings.
In 2019, I was fortunate enough to work as a Stage Manager for the community tour Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile, a phenomenal play by Lisa Holdsworth based on Adele Stripe's novel of the same name about the life of Andrea Dunbar. This had a huge influence on my philosophy of taking theatre beyond traditional theatre spaces and into the community, but of course as many in the space will tell you, there are lots of difficult technical considerations when trying to provide a fully realised show in a space without all the bells and whistles you'd expect in a conventional space.
That's where I come in.
Using my experience, I can help you make theatre happen in a way that is both fully realised and is also practical, transportable and accessible to a wide range of audiences. It is hugely important that we provide opportunities to engage with our art and I see my technical skills as an additional avenue to provide that.
